Power’s Ghost actor reveals true motivations behind doomed romance with Ramona
POWER will come to an end next week when the question of who killed James ‘Ghost’ St Patrick is finally solved.
After a brief hiatus, the Starz and HBO crime drama will air its last ever episode and will no doubt endeavour to tie up as many loose ends as possible.
One question that has hovered over Ghost’s (Omari Hardwick) history is his alleged affair with Ramona Garrity (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), following comments made by Councilman Rashad Tate (Larenz Tate).
Tate experienced something of a career boom in the wake of Ghost’s death, after previously falling prey to a double-cross at the hands of Ghost.
Back in the running to become the Governor of New York, Tate used his platform to take a swipe at his old foe and political strategist Ramona.
He told gathered press that the pair embarked on an affair while holding back of details, leaving them desperate to know more.
Ramona subsequently claimed that Tate was lying, but received little sympathy, with Tate claiming she’d sealed her fate by siding with Ghost in the first place.
Ghost and Ramona undoubtedly shared chemistry and were seen kissing on screen, although whether or not they slept together remains unclear.
Now actor Omari Hardwick has given his take on the pair’s connection, explaining that they had a lot in common.
“I’m not sure he really wanted to be with Angela. Be with her forever? Or is he just really wanting to win?” he told Power Confidential.
“I think Ramona was the right person for Ghost at this point because they are both obviously at crossroads.”
He claimed the pair bonded over a sense of shared pain and romantic grief.
“Ramona has experienced loss from a person hurting her, of course, like Ghost has hurt Tasha,” he went on.
“A divorce is a death. She’s experiencing a death at home right. He’s still trying to win.
“When you give me someone who was as powerful as Ramona was made to be, that brain was what was most attractive about her.”
He concluded: “Then you realise these two are matched because they’re not ready to give up.”
Power’s writer Courtney A Kemp also gave her take on the pair.
“I think at the end of the series Ramona represents what he wants, that’s a partner. But that’s a combination of Angela and Tasha, in way,” she said.
“That’s somebody who can get him to his next goal like Tasha could. But someone who represents a legitimate life like Angela did.”
The comments come after the finale episode of Power was leaked online, giving away who killed Ghost.
However, many fans were disappointed by what they saw, begging bosses to rewrite the resolution at the last minute.
Power season 6 is available to stream on Netflix now, with the finale available on February 10.
