BRITISH acting legend Andy Serkis is to star opposite his daughter in an upcoming Netflix fantasy series which promises epic battles to rival Game of Thrones.

The BAFTA winner, famed for his roles in The Lord of the Rings and Planet of the Apes, will appear in The Letter for the King alongside his actress offspring, Ruby.

The show has a number of similarities to Game of Thrones, as Netflix attempts to emulate the success of HBO’s smash hit.

A first official teaser video for The Letter for the King promises huge horseback battle scenes based in a mythical medieval kingdom.

It also reveals the show, which also stars His Dark Materials’ Amir Wilson and comic Omid Djalili, will launch on Netflix on March 20.

The series will follow young knight who finds himself thrust into a magical prophecy.

A synopsis for the show says: “The Letter For The King is the story of a ruthless prince who threatens to cast the world into darkness, when a young knight in training named Tiuri embarks on an epic quest to deliver a secret letter to the king.

“Along the way, he unexpectedly finds himself at the centre of a magical prophecy foretelling the rise of a hero who can defeat the prince and restore peace.

“If he’s going to survive the journey, Tiuri will have to learn what it means to be a true knight – and a true leader.”

However, unlike Game of Thrones, as The Letter for the King is based on the Dutch kids’ book of the same name by Tonke Dragt, stars of the show have reassured parents about their kids seeing scenes of gory violence, swearing, and sex.

Wilson said: “You can enjoy the adventure without a lot of violence.”

Serkis, 55, will play Mayor Mistrinaut, the scheming leader of a town that’s fallen on hard times.

He will be seen conspiring with his equally scheming daughter Lavinia, played by Ruby.

The 22-year-old’s debut role was as a child in the 2010 Ian Dury biopic Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, and she’s since appeared in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, in 2012, and TV Movie Cider With Rosie, three years later.

Serkis comes from a thespian family - his other son Louis is also an actor, and appeared as the lead of the film The Kid Who Would Be King in 2019.

The Letter for the King will hit Netflix on March 20.
