What is Bernie Winter’s comeback story in Coronation Street?

It’s looking like Bernie Winter’s comeback storyline will centre around her daughter Gemma as the new mum struggles to cope in Coronation Street.

In Bernie’s absence, Gemma has been facing a heap of pressure in the wake of her four quads' births.

Fans were heartbroken when Gemma announced she'd failed as a mother after discovering their son Aled had been born with profound permanent hearing loss in both of his ears.

Dolly-Rose has hinted that the soap will be exploring Gemma’s mental health struggles in coming weeks, and that she will need mum Bernie to come to her rescue.

Speaking about Gemma's struggles, Dolly-Rose told : "She is not massively confident. It is all a front and now she feels more vulnerable than ever.

"She does have people offering to help her, but she hates asking for help. She doesn't want to admit that she is struggling to get everything done and her mum is not around any more."

Asked whether Bernie will come back to save the day, Dolly-Rose replied: "That is exactly what she [Gemma] needs.

"Bernie knows her better than anyone and it is going to take someone close to her to recognise what she is going through and that this is more than just struggling with the babies, she does need real help to get through this."

When is Bernie Winter returning to Coronation Street?

Coronation Street is yet to reveal when exactly Bernie will be returning to the cobbles.

However, an ITV spokesperson reportedly confirmed to Digital Spy ahead of Bernie's exit last month that she won’t be gone for good.

So fans can rest assured that her character will be back on the cobbles very soon.

Why did Bernie Winter leave Coronation Street?

Bernie made a quick exit from the cobbles last month after her attempts to get justice for her son Paul ended up putting Gemma and the quads in danger.

At the end of last year, Paul finally spoke out about the abuse he’d received at the hands of Bernie’s partner Kel when he was a child.

But the police found no evidence proving Paul’s claims, leaving Bernie to take matters into her own hands.

Bernie and Gemma spent weeks trying to expose Kel as a paedophile, but disaster struck when someone got the wrong end of the stick and mistook Gemma’s house for Kel’s.

The mystery person spray painted ‘PAEDO’ over the window and pushed a burning rag through the letterbox in an attempt to set the house alight.

Chesney managed to save Gemma and the quads but Bernie was horrified by the development and realised she was doing more harm than good.
