Posting to his 3.2million Instagram followers, the 49 year old hit out at the misleading stories in a short video.

“Fake news, we hear about it all the time,” he began.

“Now, in Denmark, apparently there’s a story.. .er... that’s been floating around various websites, and it looked like a news story, and the news was that I... had died,” he went on.

“Click on the story and go buy some s**t. I’m fine, but what the f***? I mean, come on…Imagine if my daughters, my wife, my family had seen that headline?”

He concluded: “I mean I get that you wanna sell your s**t, but that’s just… So, eh, to you who did this, I know you don’t care, but f*** you.”

Nikolaj continued his rant in the clip’s accompanying caption.

“I have been used in ads against my will before but this is insane - to make a fake news story about my death is beyond disgusting,” he fumed.

“And although it’s great that the various websites that carried the story have taken it down they still ran it because it was paid for,” he continued.

“Surely there must be some control into what you put up before you put it up. Anyway. I am fine. Have a great weekend.”

Fans’ reactions to the posts were mixed, with many sharing messages of support, while other couldn’t resist making jokes.

Some questioned whether Denmark had only just got a hold of the final series of Game of Thrones, where Jaime is crushed in the tumbling ruins of The Red Keep with sister and lover Cersei.

The furore comes after fans noticed that Jaime predicted his own death way back in season five.

Nikolaj will return to screens soon in The Day We Died, a film about the terrorist attacks in Copenhagen that took place in February 2015.
