DOCTOR Who’s season 12 finale lefts fans’ jaws firmly on the floor.

The BBC sci-fi hit concluded on Sunday night – and despite widespread speculation to the contrary, all of The Doctor’s (Jodie Whittaker) companions survived with battle against The Master (Sacha Dhawan) and the Cybermen.

Whittaker managed to save the day after using weaponising the death particle inside the Lone Cyberman’s suit against The Master’s new army of android Time Lords.

Ko Shamur (Ian McElhinney) made the ultimate sacrifice by detonating the device by hand while The Doctor, Yaz (Mandip Gill), Ryan (Toisin Cole) and Graham (Bradley Walsh) made their escape.

Fleeing a scorched Gallifrey in the nick of time, the gang made their way back home to Sheffield, while The Doctor returned to her Tardis.

However, in the episode’s final moments, things took a sinister turn as a Judoon squadron teleported aboard the vehicle and informed The Doctor that she had been sentenced to life in prison.

She was immediately warped into a cell on an unidentified rock floating through space, much to her horror – not to mention that of viewers at home.

They took to social media to express their horror at Whittaker being locked up just before the credits rolled.

“JUDOON PRISON?! You can’t end it there FFS Doctor Who,” one Twitter user exclaimed.

“Now the Doctor is in prison and there's Daleks at Christmas or something I don't care anymore. I might be quitting Doctor Who,” a second added.

A third remarked: “None of the fam died. The Doctor is in prison. What a weird episode.”

While a fourth fumed: “Yo you can’t be f***ing serious right now what the f*** is she in prison for.”

“Bleakest. Finale. Ever,” a like-minded viewer quipped.

While another complained: “Judoons do not have the range to phase into the Yardis and just just phase The Doctor into a prison, come the f*** on!”

Others were more hopeful though, claiming that Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) would be the one to break The Doctor out of prison.

Some also suggested that The Doctor could be reunited with wife River Song in the prison.

Doctor Who will return for festive special Revolution of the Daleks in December.

Meanwhile, filming for season 13 will begin this autumn, for a 2021 release.

All episodes of season 12 can be streamed on BBC iPlayer.
