The 31-year-old has played Ryan on the soap for two years but is keen to do more films.

Appearing on the Coronation Street podcast, the actor revealed the differences between soaps and performing on the big screen.

"It was a totally different dynamic really, although it was kind of the same speed. Whereas, usually when you are shooting a film or short film you have a little more time.

"Whereas soap is a machine that just churns on ahead and you just have to try to keep up with it."

Ryan went on to admit that he only took the job on Corrie as it was all he could get at the time.

Asked if he always wanted to be a soap actor, he responded: "No not at all. It was just work that was available."

While stating that appearing on Corrie was an offer he simply couldn't refuse, he has got itchy feet and wants to more opportunities to do other projects.

"I would love to do more films and drama, who knows what the future holds."

He added: "It is always good to keep the acting juices flowing and do something different. I think it's great to get out of that skin you have been in for years and do something different."

Ryan made his first appearance on the cobbles in 2018 as one of Michelle Connor's sons and described his experience playing the character.

"The blueprint of the character and the story comes from the script, and that script changes all the time.
He added: "So it's very much a process of finding another corner to this guy's personality, trying to make him authentic has to come from some kind of version of who that person is in yourself."

Recently Ryan has been spending his time trying to protect his brother Ali Neeson from evil villain Gary Windass.

Ali was hellbent on keeping former lover Maria away from Gary's clutches and slept with her behind his back.

Ryan pleaded with his brother not to get on Gary's bad side, which he ignored.

On Wednesday night the DJ was seen pulling Ali off Gary after he assaulted him, as he was convinced the loan shark had spiked his drink with diazepam, which caused him to go to hospital.
