All the stars playing live gigs for free over Instagram – and other ways to entertain us during coronavirus lockdown
THE coronavirus has forced the cancellation of major music events like Glastonbury and Eurovision, but that hasn’t stopped superstars playing gigs straight into your living room.
As more cities go into lockdown in a bid to slow the spread of coronavirus, musicians are offering their services to keep people entertained on Instagram Live.

Chris Martin
Coldplay’s Chris Martin played an acoustic set for his followers on an Instagram live, where he also answered fan questions and played a cover of David Bowie’s Life On Mars.
John Legend
John Legend, 41, quickly followed suit writing on Twitter: “My friend Chris Martin did a lovely little concert from home today. I’ll be doing one tomorrow at 1pm Pacific time. See you soon. We’ll try to get through this together!”
His wife, model Chrissy Teigen, 34, sat atop the piano wrapped in a towel and a turban on her head as John opened with a cover of Stevie Wonder’s Love’s in Need of Love Today.
Keith Urban
Other musicians to get on board with the at home concerts include Keith Urban, who also performed with his wife Nicole Kidman lovingly watching on.
“That’s my audience of one,” the Aussie country singer said of his Nicole.
Diplo
Producer and DJ Diplo will also host a nightly show, after admitting he is self-isolating from his own sons to protect them from coronavirus.
“This hurts because I miss them so much. They are what makes me wake up every day, live and breathe; they are my ultimate joy. But this is my sacrifice to make sure everyone around me is safe,” he wrote on Instagram.
Yungblud
Punk-pop singer Yungblud took things one step further and performed an hour-long concert for his fans to watch online.
“Get on your bed, your kitchen table, your couch – and jump!” he shouted at fans encouraging them to enjoy the show.
Actress Bella Thorne and rapper Machine Gun Kelly also made an appearance during the concert drinking Corona beers.
French pop star Christine and the Queens will also be performing every night for fans from her studio in Paris.
“Why not meet everyday at 6pm EST on my Instagram?” she wrote to her followers. “I’ll find a way to deal with the ennui. Guests and weird concepts included.”
Other artists who are trying to help their fans through the crisis include the Dropkick Murphys, a Celtic punk band who posted their annual St Patrick’s Day concert on YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Twitch and Facebook.
West End and musical stars also got in on the action, with Hamilton creator Lin Manuel Miranda sharing unheard songs from the popular hip hop musical with fans.
Lizzo decided to mix it up a bit to help fans’ mental health by guiding them through a 30 minute meditation.
“Because I Love You, a meditation and mantra to promote healing during this global crisis. Use at your own pace. Love you!” she wrote on Instagram.
Actress and producer Rita Wilson who is in quarantine with husband Tom Hanks after contracting coronavirus in Australia put together a playlist of music calling it ‘Quarantunes’.
They were released from hospital but have to stay in lockdown for a bit longer, and from quarantine she performed Broken Man for her fans.
People are also passing the time in quarantine by getting fit, with celebs leading the charge on home workouts.
New mum Lucy Mecklenburgh is streaming daily fitness classes through Results Wellness Lifestyle, of which she is the CEO.

The former TOWIE star gave birth to son Roman last week and said she wants to help people during the quarantine.
“With the government advising self-isolation where possible and reducing travel and contact with others I really want to do something to lift spirits and hopefully improve people’s moods,” she wrote on Instagram.
Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore admitted to finding lockdown hard and reminded people how important exercise is for mental health.
“Trying to stay as positive as possible but it’s hard! I’ve put my little workout schedule up in my stories and will put it in a highlight as it’s important to stay active and there are so many things you can do at home,” she wrote on Instagram.
The Body Coach Joe Wicks, 33, got sweaty with wife, pop star Ellie Goulding, as they helped inspire fans during quarantine.
Their workout on Instagram, Joe is going to host another one tonight.
“She bloody loved it, she’s coming back again for round two,” he said on his Instagram story.
He added in a post: “Let’s keep moving, boost our energy and mood and feel good.”
