Fed up with his errors he stormed out of the Holby City hospital.

One of his most serious mistakes was to not record a patient's Do Not Resuscitate, and only realised after the hospital team revived her.

Charlie lashed out in anger at those around him, especially he is colleagues.

He spat: "I can't suck it up anymore."

"It's all knackered, this department, the NHS. Knackered."

Charlie continued: "So you know what? Screw this job. Screw the lot of you."

"I quit."

He then dumped all his belongings into one box, only to heave it into the rubbish outside the hospital.

Robyn chased him saying he "couldn't just leave'.

Only for Charlie to angrily reply: "Why not?" he replied. "There's nothing for me here now."

Casualty fans couldn't help but draw a parallel between Charlie's exit and the coronavirus pandemic as the NHS is stretched to its limit.

"Oh no Charlie has quit and the corona pandemic has landed. We're screwed," wrote one Twitter user.

Another wrote: "#Casualty won't be the same now Charlie has left."

A third added: "Charlie is legit my TV grandad. Been watching him since I was bubba back in 89. Like , why do you do this to a lifelong fan?"
