Carol has donated her plane to help the cause

Sharing a selection of photos of herself with the impressive plane, Carol told fans: "My Mildred and I (my aeroplane N242CV) have had some adventures BUT I want to tell you that right now she is being used by the amazing people at @BAESystemsAir to ferry PPE to where it's needed by our #NHS around the country.... #GoMildred #NHSThankYou".

The former Countdown star was widely praised by her followers for the generous contribution, with one writing: "That's amazing - thanks Mildred & thank you Vorders".

This is not all that Carol has done to help out during the pandemic, also lifting the paywall on her online maths classes after schools were closed last month.

The Maths Factor website is now free for all children, with Carol explaining on Good Morning Britain at the time: "We have made it free for all children in primary school for as long as it takes, until they can go back to school.

"With all the books and things I have ever done, this is the thing that I am the most proud of - just doing four sessions with Auntie Carol a week, that takes about 15 minutes, a child will advance two and a half years in one year."

During the same interview, Carol revealed plans to launch maths tutorials for grown-ups on YouTube, with host Piers Morgan sparking Ofcom complaints when he made a suggestive comment about what she'd wear for the lessons.

He asked: "Now you're talking, are you going to wear a mathematical uniform for this?

Keeping her composure, Carol quipped later in the chat: "I'll tell you what I am not going to do, Piers, which is probably what you would like me to do, it's teach you how to write 'boobs' on a calculator."

Piers continued to be cheeky, replying that he will still "definitely" be tuning in to Carol's classes.
