As Susanna introduced the guests to viewers her words got stuck in her throat and she coughed and spluttered, before apologising.

Considering fans' concerns over the COVID-19 symptom, the presenter cleared her voice and laughed off the symptom as she said: "Sorry, I feel like I have to explain my rogue cough."

Susanna's comments come after Piers was spotted coughing through the first 10 minutes of Good Morning Britain on Tuesday.

The presenter had asked viewers to rally behind sick Boris Johnson - but worried them when he persistently coughed live on air.

During the advert break Piers addressed their concerns and denied that he had fallen ill.

After a fan had tweeted him: "Are you feeling well, you've been coughing a bit this morning! Stay safe and keep yourself protected. Love GMB."

Piers responded: "All good thanks Elizabeth, just clearing my throat after a fairly sleepless night."

Earlier in Thursday's show, Susanna, Ben Shephard and resident physician Dr Hilary Jones debated the issue of fake antibody testing kits sold by disreputable firms amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The show urged viewers not to play into online scams that claim to screen antibodies to see whether they have recovered from Covid-19.

Dr Hilary said: "There are a number of firms who are immorally selling antibody tests to members of the public who are scared and frightened and would want such a test.

"The Department of Health and Social Care there are no validated tests for home use and it is illegal to supply such products.

"It’s really important that you don’t fall for the marketing practices of certain disreputable firms. There is no good antibody test available for sale to the public at the moment."
