Holby City to go off air after Tuesday’s action-packed episode – and won’t return until later this year

HOLBY City is to go off air after Tuesday's episode - and is not expected to return until later this year.

It comes after it was reported that the BBC shut down production on six shows due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A BBC spokesperson told the much-loved show will be going on a break next week after Tuesday's episode has aired, and will be due to return to our screens at some point later this year.

Viewers can expect an action-packed temporary farewell from the show, which will follow the aftermath of John Michie's shocking return as Guy Self.

Both Cameron Dunn's (Nic Jackman) killer secret and job are at risk and emotions run high when Essie Harrison (Kaye Wragg) opens up about her battle with cancer.

Last month the BBC decided to put six of their most popular shows filming on hold - including Holby City, Casualty, EastEnders and Doctors.

A BBC spokeswoman told the Sun Online: "In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, it has been decided that filming on all BBC Studios continuing dramas will be postponed until further notice.

"The decision was made after the latest government update.

"We will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the World Health Organisation and public health organisations."

EastEnders will now only air on Monday and Tuesdays with immediate effect and will keep the soap on air for longer despite the production being halted.

An EastEnders spokeswoman said: "In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, it has been decided that filming on EastEnders will be postponed until further notice.

"The decision was made after the latest government update. We will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the World Health Organisation and Public Health England.

In the UK, coronavirus has killed 7,798 people while a total of 65,077 have been struck down with the illness.
