Indiana Jones: How to watch the films in order

In the midst of the coronavirus lockdown, the BBC has been treating viewers to some old classics with the Indiana Jones franchise being no exception.

Before the state broadcaster shows The Kingdom of the Crustal Skull tonight (April 13) on BBC One, we have listed all the titles in the franchise chronologically and how to watch them.

Here is how to watch all four Indiana Jones classic films

Raiders of the Lost Ark

The 1981 film which began it all sees Harrison Ford play Indiana Jones, an archaeologist who must battle a group of Nazis in search of the biblical Ark of the Covenant.

The film, upon release was praised for its action-packed nature and comedy elements.

With a budget of $18 million, it has gone on to gross over $389 million world wide.

As the first instalment, fans can catch it on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Temple of Doom

The success of the first film made way for its sequel, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984.

Indiana Jones finds himself in India where he finds himself on the lookout of a precious gem which has been stolen from a poor village by an evil priest.

He must also battle to save a group of young boys who have been kidnapped in the village.

The film, like its predecessor, was praised for its direction by Steven Spielberg and hailed as a classic.

It was also given a mixed reaction to its dark themes and being gorier than the first film.

Fans can watch the second instalment of the franchise on BBC’s iPlayer for a limited time, Amazon Prime and Netflix.

The Last Crusade

In the 1989 film, Indiana Jones mixes it up once again with the Nazis.

This time, Indiana is on a mission to find his father who had been kidnapped and also to locate The Holy Grail.

In the third instalment, he deals with betrayal and deceit on his quest to conquer evil.

After the reaction to 1984’s Temple of Doom, director, Spielberg decided to tone down on the gore, yet managed to keep the action at a maximum.

The film grossed over $474 million and received mostly positive reviews upon release.

Harrison Ford’s third portrayal of Indiana Jones can be watched on Netflix, Amazon Prime and on the BBC’s iPlayer for a limited time.
