Richard Madeley insists his blond hair is ‘100% natural’ and credits Florida sun for striking new look
RICHARD Madeley has insisted his new blond hairdo is "100% natural" - crediting the Florida sunshine for his eye-catching new look.
The 63-year-old star sparked speculation that he'd reached for the peroxide when he debuted his new lighter locks last month, but the TV favourite has insisted that this is not the case.
Richard has claimed that when he was born he had hair as blond as Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and a two-week holiday in the US earlier this year lightened his 'do naturally.
He shared: "It is completely natural, nothing to do with a bottle. You don't have to believe me, but it's true.
"If I was dyeing my hair I'm sure it would go green, I wouldn't know how to do it."
Richard added to : "I was born Boris-blond. Ten years ago the grey started to come through, and I began to notice in the summer, particularly in strong sunshine, the grey bits were going blond.
"As I've gone greyer, and I'm about 50% grey now, if I'm in the sun for a long time it will go blond.
"Before the lockdown we were in Florida for two weeks."
Richard was spotted sporting a "surfer look" in April, with fans believing that he'd had a home-hairdressing makeover at the time.

He teamed the new look with patterned shorts and a bright blue T-Shirt - a far cry from how we are used to seeing the star on shows like This Morning.
Richard is famed for his cropped brown hair and a smart suit, which makes his appearance in recent weeks all the more striking.
The star officially revealed his hairdo earlier this month as he and wife Judy, 73, returned to our TV screens for new Channel 4 show Keep Reading and Carry On.
