What time is Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light on and where can I watch it?
THE Eurovision Song Contest has been cancelled in 2020 for the first time in its 64-year history due to the coronavirus pandemic.
But a replacement show – Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light – will air TONIGHT (May 16), honouring the 41 songs that would have been performed in the 2020 contest, but in a non-competitive version.
What is Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light?
The stand-in show will air on what would have been the Grand Final of The Eurovision Song Contest 2020, which was cancelled for the first time since its beginning in 1956, due to the Covid-19 crisis.
Just like the normal contest, the live show will be simultaneously broadcast across Europe and further afield.
It will be hosted from the Netherlands by Dutch presenters Chantal Janzen, Edsilia Rombley and Jan Smit, while Graham Norton will provide a live commentary for BBC One viewers.
There will be a virtual sing-a-long where fans watching from across the world can dress up and form a Eurovision choir to perform Johnny Logan’s winning song for Ireland in 1980, What’s Another Year.
The official videos of the would-be 41 competing songs will be shown, in the order they would have been performed.
The UK’s entry is from artist James Newman with song My Last Breath.
The singer-song writer has written hits for Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris and Little Mix.
Sietse Bakker, Executive Producer of what would have been the 65th Eurovision Song Contest, announced: “We want to make a show that puts a spotlight not only on the 41 artists that were due to appear in Rotterdam but also inspire those at home and connect people from across Europe and beyond in these difficult times.
“Of course, we will also honour those who are affected by the coronavirus crisis and those who work so hard to fight it. Let’s make this an unforgettable moment in Eurovision history!”
