yasmeen's hell
Coronation Street fans devastated as Yasmeen is forced to rot in prison after being refused bail for attacking Geoff
CORONATION Street fans are fuming that Yasmeen Nazir's bailed has been refused.
The chef - who is played by actress Shelley King in the popular ITV soap - has been told that she will have to stay locked up in her cell until her hearing and viewers are less than impressed with the judge's decision.
Over the past year Corrie fans have watched in horror as Yasmeen has had to deal with awful abuse from her husband Geoff.
Last week she was finally pushed to the edge in an explosive row which ended up with her hitting him over the head with a bottle in self defence.
The chef was left horrified when was told she was being charged with the crime - despite the police knowing about Geoff’s abuse.
In court, Imran Habeeb did his upmost to try and save her from going back inside, all while granddaughter Alya Nazir, Ryan Connor and Toyah Battersby supported her from the public gallery.
He argued: "Mrs Metcalfe has no previous history of offending whatsoever and there is no likelihood that she will abscond.
"She didn't flee the scene after the incident itself and she surrendered to the police voluntarily.
"She has strong family ties in the community..."
Tim - Geoff's son - watched on from the other side of the room and muttered to his wife Sally: "All he's doing is proving that she fooled everybody all these years."
Imran added: "Furthermore, due to Mrs Metcalfe's age and the medical report that confirms she's suffering with shock, taking into account the factors put forward I submit for the prosecution has failed to establish any grounds for refusing bail.
"And as such my client should be granted bail."
But it seems that the judge wasn't convinced by his plea.
She replied: "Thank you for your submissions. I have considered them carefully but I'm satisfied that if released there are substantial grounds to believe that Mrs Metcalfe may fail to attend her trial due to the seriousness of the offence.
"Furthermore I believe that she may try to contact the complainant as she indicated that she wished to do so when interviewed by the police.
"In my view there are no measures that mitigate that those circumstances sufficiently, as such bail is refused and you were remain in custody until your trial."
A heartbroken Alya watched her grandma walk off and wept: "This is a nightmare."
And it seems that the resturant owner isn't the only one angry about the outcome as fans of the soap are outraged that Yazmeen isn't allowed to go home to see her family before the hearing.
One fan tweeted: "Would they really remand an old woman like that? A tag would be sufficient?"
Another said: "Saw that coming. They don’t have all the facts. Stay strong, Yasmeen."
A third wrote: "I knew she wouldn’t get bail [sad face emoji]"
Another tweeted: "OMG YASMEEN NO."
