"Oh what a shame," said Susanna Reid.

Co-host Piers Morgan added: "We've lost them. We've actually lost everybody. That's been the biggest guest vaporising I've ever seen."

Suddenly former politician Alan Johnson returned to the screen.

"He's always been a great survivor and he's the only survivor of our panel right now.

"Let's seamlessly move onto the next guest."

The connection was back up and running four minutes later when the guests re-joined the programme.

It allowed one guest to finish his point after being cut off in his prime.

Piers said: "Thank to our great panel. Thank you for coming back from the dead like you did.

"We've never lost a whole panel - apart from the great survivor - and had you all brought back to life.
"That in itself was a hopeful moment."
