Dynamo hospitalised with Crohn’s flare up – two months after getting coronavirus
DYNAMO has revealed he’s been hospitalised with a Crohn's disease flair up - just two months after he tested positive for coronavirus.
The 37-year-old star suffers from the inflammatory disease which can be linked to irritable bowel syndrome, and he recently recovered from deadly Covid-19.
He told fans on Twitter today: "Today is IBD awareness day.
"I was supposed to be doing some talks about it to let people know what its like and to help those suffering, but unfortunately I suffered a flare up yesterday and will be unable to fulfil my commitments today.
"Really sorry to let people down…especially today. But for us going through it, it’s an IBD life, not just one day, and it can affect us when we least expect it.
"Hate to burden you with my woe’s but feel bad to those who I have let down today. Heading to hospital to get checked out, my team will keep you posted and I will be back before you know it. Stay strong out there everyone."
Dynamo revealed in 2017 that he suffers from Crohn's disease, an inflammatory bowel condition which requires him to take daily medication.
He was diagnosed when he was a teenager and had to have half his stomach removed aged 17.
What is Crohn's disease?
It is a condition that causes inflammation of the digestive system. The inflammation is the body’s reaction to injury or irritation, and can cause redness, swelling and pain.
It is often described as a chronic condition and although sufferers will have periods of good health, there are flare-ups where symptoms are more active.
It can be caused by the genes a person has inherited, an abnormal reaction of the immune system and is probably triggered by something in the environment.
A few celebrities have gone public with their diagnosis, including magician Dynamo, real name Stephen Frayne, who shocked fans with his dramatic weight gain due to the illness.
Common symptoms include:
- diarrhoea
- abdominal pain and cramping (usually worse after eating)
- extreme tiredness
- unintended weight loss or gain
- blood in poo
- mouth ulcers
- inflammation
- feeling ill
- joint pain
