Britain’s Got Talent won’t show sword-swallowing act live as bosses can’t stomach it
Producers worry Alex Magala's act is 'too dangerous' and fear he may cut his throat live on TV
PANICKING Britain’s Got Talent bosses have pulled out of screening sword-swallower Alex Magala’s act live, fearing he may cut his own throat.
Alex, 26, who admitted he has not done the stunt before, said they insisted on recording it.
After revealing their decision, Alex, who dropped from the ceiling with a sword down his throat during his first audition, said they told him that doing the stunt in the semi-final was “just too dangerous”.
He said: “They (the bosses) have a point, so I couldn’t really refuse.
“The whole act is so dangerous, there is no safety button on it.
“And, although I reassured them that I would be in control all the time, I have never done this stunt before.
“It could be a revolution in the world of sword-swallowing.
“But if even the slightest little thing — a wrong angle, a glitch in the music — goes wrong, it will break my concentration and it could be a massive disaster.”
Moldovan Alex, who has won Russia’s Got Talent, added: “Performing in the past, I have cut my oesophagus, which was horrible.
“But with this one there are no minor injuries. It either goes right or it goes very, very badly wrong.”
Viewers can watch Alex perform the stunt in mid-air during Monday’s semi-final.
