Safety First

BGT viewers mock ‘don’t try this at home’ warning during Alex Magala’s insane sword act

The BGT finalist wowed the judges with his daring performance on Monday night's semi-final

SWORD swallower Alex Magala made it through to the BGT final but viewers were left giggling at the constant ‘do not try this at home’ messages that appeared on screen during his performance.

His daring act made the audience and the judges squirm as he scaled a pole blindfolded and dropped himself before stopping just above some giant moving drills.

Alex’s act was so dangerous he had to pre-record his performance

Alex’s gripping performance had to be pre-recorded over safety concerns.

However, while BGT wanted to make sure none of their viewers would try his dangerous act at home, viewers started to mock their safety messages.

Will said: “‘Don’t try this at home?’ Do I look like I have a 12 inch samurai sword ready to slide down my throat while doing kart wheels #BGT #BGT2016?”

Viewers and the judges were amazed by his daring act on Britain’s Got Talent

Steve jokingly said: “Got my crossbow out. strapped myself to the living room wall only to be told don’t try this at home. Typical #BGT2016.”

Nick added: “Got a drill out, the kitchen knife, put up a scaffolding pole in living room. Only to be told don’t try this at home -gutted #BGT2016”

Others joked about how the safety warnings could put of the next round of BGT applicants.

Tom said: “How are we meant to encourage the next generation of sword swallowers if they keep saying ‘don’t try this at home’? #BGT20″

Afton added: “’Don’t try this at home’ – aahhh man. *climbs down from pole* *removes blindfold* *packs away chainsaw* #BGT.”

Viewers mocked the safety messages that appeared during Alex’s performance

It was a dramatic semi-final as Alex was up against husband and wife ballet partners Shannon and Peter for the final spot in Saturday’s final.

While David Walliams and Alesha Dixon voted to keep Alex, Amanda Holden said she had to “go with her heart” and keep the husband and wife dancing duo.

As the vote came down to Simon Cowell, he said: “I have to give it to the person who’s prepared to risk their life.”

Alex shocked the judges with his daring sword trick

Meanwhile, daredevil Alex warned viewers that his final performance would be even more stomach churning.

He said: “It’s going to be a surprise even for me. There’s always this crazy idea that’s in my mind that doesn’t let me sleep at night, so I will bring [it] here.”

It remains to be seen if he will be allowed to perform live this weekend.

The winner of last night’s semi-final was singer Wayne Woodward and the pair now join 100 Voices of Gospel and mother/son singing duo Mel and Jamie in the final.

The judges found it hard to choose between Shannon and Peter and Alex Magala

Tonight’s semi-final will feature Simon’s Golden Buzzer act Boogie Storm, young dancer Jack Higgins, drone entertainers Flying Bebop, singers Josh Curnow, Morgan Connie Smith and Zyrah Rose, and dance acts Khronos Agoria and Vadik & The Bear.

Tonight’s BGT semi-final airs tonight at 7.30pm on ITV.
