HE is set to go to No1 in the charts tomorrow and now producer Jawsh 685 believes TikTok is the way for other artists to make it big in music too.
The 17-year-old created his song Laxed (Siren Beat) after school last year.
It later became the soundtrack to a popular dance on TikTok, which has been performed by more than 50million people including Jennifer Lopez, Lizzo — and even Susan Boyle.
Since then, Jason Derulo has sung over the track and that version, called Savage Love, is on course to go to No1 this afternoon, knocking Dababy’s Rockstar off the top spot, where it has been for six weeks in total.
It is a miraculous tale for the rising star, real name Joshua Nanai, but he believes it is a sign of the rapidly changing way people discover music.
In an exclusive interview from his home in Auckland, New Zealand, he told me: “It really helps small artists like me, because I wasn’t big at the time and getting it on TikTok helped people recognise it.
“It’s shocking to see what TikTok can do.
“For me it’s a blessing that it happened. But I’m still shocked.”
Jawsh 685 has noticed other artists trying to replicate his success by making a dance routine which they hope will go viral too.
The producer added: “I’ve seen other people work on beats and they have a dance ready so they can be like me.”
It’s the latest in a string of hugely successful tunes to have been found through the app.
The most notable is Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road last year, which scored a record-breaking 19 weeks at the top of the US charts.
Jawsh 685 is now keen for rapper Akon to reinvent his tune following Jason’s pop effort.
Asked what he thought about Jason’s, he said: “I wouldn’t say I’m a big fan but I like a lot of his songs.”
For now though, people are still loving his hit single, which even Judi Dench was seen dancing to in a video posted by her grandson Sam Williams.
Speaking about the platform, which Judi said gave her a new lease of life in lockdown, the legendary actor admitted: “Well, it saved my life . . . I hope I’m asked to do more but, of course, I can’t ask for the part.”
Jena is Jason's No1
JASON DeRulo will have the perfect person to celebrate with if Savage Love gets to No1 – his girlfriend Jena Frumes.
I revealed in May that he was dating the model and influencer after she moved into his Los Angeles home for lockdown, and now they’ve confirmed it.
This week the singer used TikTok to share a video of them kissing, proving they are yet to get sick of each other while stuck at home.
The success of his single is good news for Jason too, as he split from his record label Warner after a decade earlier this year over creative differences.
With this success, there will be plenty of other people eager to snap him up.
Lads are ready to McFly again
A DECADE has passed since McFly’s last full studio album but the wait for new songs is almost over.
The group, made up of Tom Fletcher, Dougie Poynter, Harry Judd and Danny Jones, have almost finished their next record, which will be out this year, and they have signed a deal with record label BMG, home to big-name artists including Kylie Minogue.
The first tease will come with their comeback single this month, although the lads are keeping schtum about its title.
But Danny said: “There’s that hands-in-the-air feeling about it, like when you’re drunk or you’re having a barbecue.
“You can put it on and your kids will dance to it, your wife will dance to it, your grandad, everybody. Even the lads can get involved, the football crowd. I could really hear it on the Fifa soundtrack.”
They also confirmed they had written a song to rival their 2005 wedding favourite, All About You.
Tom, who wrote the song for his wife Giovanna Fletcher, said the new track centres around the line “You’re my special”.
After selling ten million records worldwide, in 2013 McFly joined up with Busted to form supergroup McBusted, then took a hiatus in 2016.
Talks of a reunion for the group were thrown off course the following year after the lads struggled with in-fighting and jealousy over their solo successes away from the band.
On the row, Tom told the BBC: “We genuinely didn’t know how to get back on track. A lot of those things became the unspoken issues.
“These are your best friends, who you want to be stood on stage with, and seeing them do things without you is really difficult to deal with.”
I’m glad to hear the lads have managed to patch things up.
Joel's aiming for Noel No1
MASKED Singer host Joel Dommett is launching a surprising bid for Christmas No1 – with his celebrity pals.
He has teamed up with comic Steven Dunne for the charity track and said on their Teenage Mixtape podcast: “Because we have a different guest every week we’re going to write a song and get a line from every guest.
“I reckon that’s enough for our Christmas No1 hit.”
Love Island’s Kem Cetinay has already been recorded singing: “I cannot wait for Christmas lights.”
I’d better put ear plugs at the top of my Christmas list.

Dollayed until 2021
THE Pussycat Dolls are hoping it’s third time lucky having rescheduled their UK tour for a year after its original dates.
The group – Kimberly Wyatt, Jessica Sutta, Nicole Scherzinger, Ashley Roberts and Carmit Bachar – had been due to hit the road in April for the first time in ten years but that was delayed until October due to Covid-19.

Announcing the new dates on Instagram, they wrote: “We can’t wait to see you all as soon as it’s safe, so we can sing and dance together again.”
Their comeback single React was a hit last year so I’m hoping they have some more music to tide us over until next spring.
