KASABIAN frontman Tom Meighan has quit the band after ";struggling with personal issues".

In a statement the band said Tom wanted to “concentrate all his energies on getting his life back on track”.

The statement reads: “Tom Meighan is stepping down from Kasabian by mutual consent.

"Tom has struggled with personal issues that have affected his behaviour for quite some time and now wants to concentrate all his energies on getting his life back on track.

"We will not be commenting further.”

Tom is known as one of music's most charismatic frontmen but also a somewhat controversial figure.

He once labelled The Strokes' Julian Casablancas "a posh f***ing skier" and Pete Doherty a "f***ing tramp".

Tom has suffered with personal issues in the past and admitted to a "meltdown" while touring America in 2012.

He told The Sun at the time: "I had a meltdown. Not a complete breakdown but I just got it through the realisation of what was going on in my life.

"I went a bit mad for a couple of days. I panicked. I've never had that before. And I was at breaking points."

The rock band formed in Leicester in 1997 and conquered the charts with five of their six studio albums hitting the no 1 spot.

Back in 2018, the band's creative leader Serge Pizzorno revealed he didn’t want to make another Kasabian record without first searching for new inspiration.

He broke away from the band to release his debut solo album under the guise of his initials S.L.P. (Sergio Lorenzo Pizzorno).

At the time he told The Sun that this solo project wouldn't mark the end of the band.

"I am in my band and I love my band," he said.

"The best way to describe it is, it’s like another planet I can now visit whenever I want.

"It’s this planet that orbits and I can go there for a bit."

Kasabian decided to take a break after touring 2017’s For Crying Out Loud.

"When you get to six albums, you’ve got to keep it clever and make it interesting," Serge added.

Kasabian have had six albums — five No1 albums in a row.

"We’ve headlined Glastonbury, Leicester Stadium, The O2 and got really big in Europe, Eastern Europe and South America.

“Things rocketed after that last album and we needed time off.

"There is nothing better than being in a band but there are times, like when we are sat in airports, when it feels like hard work.”

In June, the band were due to play a headline set at Victoria Park in Leicester, but it was called off due to the lockdown.

Just before the set was due to take place, Tom spoke about how much he "misses" the band and the boys.

Speaking about Serge's album, he told : "I'm always proud of him. I love him dearly and I miss him, I miss the boys, I miss the camaraderie and all of it.

"But yeah, I'm proud of him. He's so clever, Serge. So clever. And I bought his record. He's still got to sign it for me."

He also spoke about writing his own solo songs: "I'm writing loads of music at the minute. We'll see what happens. I've got a few cookies in the jar...

"They ain't bad, you know. It's very autobiographical, like the story of my life. It's kind of... heartbreaking. Well, not heartbreaking, just to the core, you know. Very really."
