She revealed in an interview last night that he had emerged from his coma after 98 days in hospital and even opened his eyes.
Posting a rare message on Instagram tonight, Kate said: "Thank you everyone for your lovely good wishes and for sending me your stories of how you’ve been coping too."
However, she also sounded a note of caution, saying the day he returned home having recovered still seemed "very uncertain" amid these "ghastly times".
She wrote: "The future we are really hoping for , Derek recovering & coming home is not nearly in sight & very uncertain.
"But it feels positive to share how we are trying to keep ourselves going as I know so many are dealing with terrible challenges in all sorts of ways as we all try to emerge from these ghastly times, just as we continue to hope Derek can emerge from his minimum state of consciousness.
"I hope reading this helps in some way . Thank you everyone for your lovely good wishes and for sending me your stories of how you’ve been coping too.
"I hope that some of the piece brings some comfort – we’re all in this together. For all of you messaging me on clubgarraway.com who are also having a rough time, keep the hope alive and keep moving forwards. I will be sharing more there soon."
It is the first time Kate has posted on Instagram since Father's Day on June 21 when she updated fans on Derek's condition.

She wrote: "This week I am refocusing on hope that as a family we are going to pull together with the support of friends and get through everything come what may.
"Hope- because I know that the amazing people keeping Derek alive, stand shoulder to shoulder with me in NEVER giving up on him and, of course, hope that my wonderful Derek is going to keep fighting this and eventually start to slowly recover."
Kate concluded: "This Father’s Day I am sending you all the love & positivity in the world - let’s seek out the joy!"
