PIERS Morgan has revealed that he will "possibly"; leave Good Morning Britain next year.

The 55-year-old star and his co-host Susanna Reid had viewers worried yesterday when they revealed that this is their last week hosting the ITV breakfast show.

However, today the pair have insisted that they will be returning in September after a lengthy summer break - but Piers was quick to clarify that this doesn't mean they will be on the show forever.

Speaking this morning, Piers said: "We have two more days left, then you'll all be glad to see the back of us."

Susanna quickly interjected: "For now! Whenever you say we're off and we're leaving…"

Piers concluded: "Morgan quits! Good riddance!"

He added: "This is not forever, we'll be back in September."

The presenter then read a letter from a viewer who had sent in paintings of the two hosts, with the note reading: "I thought I heard you state you're leaving at the end of the year."

Piers then said: "I'm not… Leaving next year… Possibly."

Susanna then chuckled, replying: "Contract negotiations underway."

Back in May, Piers told The Sun's TV Magazine that he has signed a contract that will keep him on Good Morning Britain until 2021.

Remaining defiant in the face of his critics, having received over 4,000 Ofcom complaints so far this year, he simply told viewers to "switch off" if they don't like him.

He told us at the time: "I’ve just signed a new contract up for GMB until the end of next year. I love working with Susanna and the team – we’re a Ying Yang that works."
