Coronation Street’s Joe Duttine says Tim is ‘in denial’ about evil dad Geoff Metcalfe

CORONATION Street's Joe Duttine has said that Tim is "in denial" about his evil dad Geoff Metcalfe as Yasmeen's trial looms.

His Weatherfield character has been torn in recent weeks as his fiancée Sally has grown suspicious of Geoff's innocence after he was stabbed by his long-suffering wife earlier this year.

Geoff has been abusing and controlling Yasmeen for months leading up to her act of self defence, and while she has been in prison for the attack he has been playing up to his victimhood.

Now Tim has found himself in the middle of his wife and his father, with 50-year-old actor Joe defending his Corrie alter ego during an appearance on Good Morning Britain earlier today.

Host Lorraine Kelly accused Tim of being "dense" for not realising the truth about his dad earlier, with Joe hitting back: "He's in denial about his father.

"Everybody thinks the world revolves around their own family and to begin to suspect anything negative of his father is the last thing he's going to do."

Joe appeared on the breakfast show alongside his fiancée and co-star Sally Carman, who plays Abi Franklin in the ITV soap.

The pair admitted that they were happy to have resumed filming last month after the ongoing coronavirus pandemic brought all TV production to a halt back in March.

Sally, 39, explained: "We were desperate to get back and have never been so grateful to be working with so many of our friends, it's been brilliant.

"Corrie have handled it brilliantly."

Joe went on to poke fun at the limited canteen options as a result of the soap's stricter health and safety guidelines, joking that it has gone downhill.

Joe and Sally delighted fans when they announced their engagement earlier this year after they started secretly dating in August 2018 when they hit it off on set.
