Thandie Newton reveals she was ‘so scared’ of working with Tom Cruise

TOM CRUISE has wowed audiences and performed death-defying stunts in the films – but winning over co-star Thandie Newton really was Mission: Impossible.

The Brit has launched a scathing attack on Hollywood A-lister Tom, claiming she was scared of him and that he tried to convert her to Scientology.

Recalling working with him on 2000’s Mission: Impossible 2, Thandie said: “I was so scared of Tom. He was a very dominant individual.

“He tries super hard to be a nice person. But the pressure. He takes on a lot. And I think he has this sense that only he can do everything as best as it can be done.”

Tom gave Thandie a present in a bid to get her involved in Scientology, she says. The actor is so devoted to the controversial church that it awarded Tom its highest honour, the Freedom Medal of Valor, in 2008.

Thandie continued: “He was very generous and open about sharing Scientological stuff. Christmas gifts would be something to do with Scientology, like a book with the greatest hits of Scientology, a bit like a Bible kind of thing.

“I was curious, because it’s like, ‘Wow, if it’s going to attract powerful, high-profile people, there’s got to be some glue that sticks this s**t together’. Didn’t find any.”

Thandie went on to say filming certain scenes was a “nightmare” and that Tom pushed her “further into a place of terror and insecurity”.

Tom has starred in and produced all six of the successful Mission: Impossible movies. He spent lockdown at the Scientology HQ in West Sussex while filming on the seventh outing had to be postponed.

Thandie is convinced Nicole Kidman, who was married to Tom until 2001, was responsible for her being cast as his character Ethan Hunt’s love interest, Nyah.

She said: “You know who got me that role? Nicole Kidman. I’ve never outright asked her, but when your husband is like, ‘Who would you mind me pretending to sg for the next six months?’ You know what I mean? It’s kind of nice if you can pick together. Nicole was a huge advocate for me.”

Thandie also warned she might spill the beans on other Hollywood stars.
She said: “I’ve got my little black book, which will be published on my deathbed.”

Asked if it names names, Thandie added: “Oh, of everything. Got to leave something behind. I’m not doing it when I’m alive. I don’t want to deal with the fallout.”

It’s not the last we’ve heard of this.

Zara ‘upsizes’ Jac

EX-EASTENDERS star Jacqueline Jossa recently launched her own clothing range – and she might be sticking to wearing it after slating high street shop Zara for their “offensive” sizing.

The Queen of the Jungle said she was furious after discovering she could only fit into XL shorts in the shop, despite being a size 12. The average dress size for UK women is 16.

She fumed to her 2.8million followers on Instagram: “The sizing in Zara is offensive.

“Just not having it really. So I had to take a whole load of stuff back.”
The actress was shocked that women over size 12 would not be able to wear clothes from the shop.

She continued: “I was shocked when I got home yesterday, honestly. I’m a size 12 and the large wouldn’t fit me from Zara.

“I had to get the extra large, which is not a problem but, you know, people who are over a size 14, size 16, size 18, do they just not shop in Zara?

“I haven’t shopped in Zara for years. So I kind of remember why I don’t shop in there any more. I love the clothes but I think the sizing is really off.”

Her own range for InTheStyle stocks sizes from 6 to 24 – perhaps Zara should take a leaf out of her book.

He has hinted he could launch a music career after befriending Irish musician Dermot Kennedy and agreeing to join him for a gig. Dermot’s show is at London’s Natural History Museum on July 30 and it will be live-streamed to paying punters, with tickets on sale on Friday at 9am.

A source said: “Paul has been a fan of Dermot’s music for ages so jumped at the chance to get involved.”

Paul has impressed fans with his voice in online clips. With Niall Horan, Lewis Capaldi and Harry Styles following him on Instagram, he’ll have no shortage of offers.

Ellie in black

ELLIE Goulding can only make good music if she’s dressed in black – despite her new album being called Brightest Blue.

The Power singer said she gets “distracted” if she wears anything else. She explained: “I’m a bit of a weirdo, I have to wear black every day. When I’m in the studio I have to wear all black, kind of like a blank canvas so I don’t get distracted by anything I’m wearing.”

And it’s not only clothes. She told the Talk Art podcast: “I can’t wear any kind of jewellery, any make-up, anything with colour. It has to be a black T-shirt, I can’t even wear tight trousers, it has to be like I’m about to embark on something physical.”

Du-ing a family reunion

DUA Lipa and Anwar Hadid are finally back in America after spending four months apart from his family.

I revealed on Monday how they flew to the Caribbean to quarantine – because Dua is not a US citizen she had to isolate first. Anwar’s mum Yolanda took this pic, and with his sister Gigi pregnant with Zayn Malik’s baby, expect more family snaps soon.

Pink pooch Paris

IF you thought you were having a wuff day, spare a thought for Paris Hilton’s dog. The American heiress has dyed one of her pooches pink – making it the worst fashion accessory I’ve seen in 2020.

My opinion aside, Paris looked as proud as punch as she paraded the pup during a day out in Malibu, California. She wore this black crocheted crop-top with a long, sarong-style skirt as she ran errands.

It was the first time Paris had been seen in public since she joked about following in Kanye West’s footprints by running in the next US presidential election.

She started her campaign on Instagram on Monday with the slogan “Make America Hot Again”.

Paris also posted a number of satirical photos to accompany her bid for the presidency, including snaps of her lying on Donald Trump’s desk in the White House Oval Office. Trump, Kanye or Paris – I’m not sure who would be more controversial.

A sentiment we can all live by.
