NHS workers have been able to park for free at work since the beginning of the lockdown period following a petition signed by 400,000 people.

Speaking on today's Good Morning Britain, Piers fumed: "It seems to me utterly ridiculous that doctors, nurses, surgeons, everyone else in the healthcare system, have to pay for the privilege of going to hospitals to save our lives.

"This strikes me as completely ridiculous. And particularly obscene when a global pandemic strikes this country and they're risking their own lives."

: “The provision of free parking for National Health Service staff by NHS trusts has not ended and nothing has changed since the announcement on 25 March.

"However, free parking for staff has only been made possible by support from local authorities and independent providers and this support cannot continue indefinitely.”

Piers has now launched a campaign to prevent the charges from returning.

And the host said he would like to see the Government make a U-turn by the end of the day.

Earlier this year Piers vowed to pay parking tickets slapped on NHS staff while they were working.

He gave a progress report today, telling viewers he's successfully had 39 tickets overturned, while five councils hadn't replied to his ticket challenges.

However, two tickets had to be paid including a consultant doctor in Sunderland who was on call during lockdown.
