Candice Brown shares message about feeling ‘hopeless’ and ‘no good’ after split from husband
BAKE Off's Candice Brown shared an emotional message about feeling ‘hopeless’ and ‘no good’ after confirming her split from husband Liam Macauley.
The 35-year-old ‘liked’ a post by artist and author Charles Mackesy, which reads: “Sometimes your mind plays tricks on you. It can tell you you’re no good, that it’s hopeless.”
Originally shared on Twitter by Mackesy himself, who wrote the best-selling book 'The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse', the quote continues: “But remember this; you are loved, and important and you bring to this world things no one else can.
"So hold on.”
The GBBO winner announced yesterday that she and her husband Liam Macauley had decided to separate, less than two years after they got married.
Liam has also moved out of the flat they shared above her pub.
Her split earlier this year from Liam comes just months after she opened up about battling depression and admitting she'd thought about self-harm.
She revealed she’s been on antidepressants and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder medication for five years — and says she has considered self harm.
The telly star admitted that baking had helped her deal with her mental health issues along with group therapy.
But in an emotional interview, which saw her break down in tears, the former PE teacher said: “I suffer with clinical depression, chronic phobia and PTSD."
“It’s hard and people don’t realise, it’s a real battle. People might be like ‘Oh she’s jumping on the bandwagon’ but they’ve got no idea what has been going on in my brain for the past five or six years."
“It’s been s***, sometimes I get angry and it’s probably going to be with me forever. When it got really bad, baking was what I would do.”
Breaking the news of her marriage breakdown, her agent told the : “I can confirm Candice and Liam separated earlier this year."
Candice put on a brave face today as she appeared on Good Morning Britain to talk about restaurants taking deposits to ensure people turn up for their bookings.
The pub owner revealed she charges £20 per person for a dinner reservation to keep her business afloat in the time of the coronavirus pandemic.
Candice said on the show: "It's common courtesy just to call and cancel if you can't make a booking."
She later hosted a bake-along to raise funds and awareness for Coppafeel, to help women check their breasts for lumps and to prevent breast cancer.
But she also admitted "think I’m going to eat a lot of biscuits today", a sign that the split might be taking its toll.
