Bake Off host Matt Lucas made himself sick after eating all 12 contestants’ dishes on the first day of filming

BAKE Off host Matt Lucas made himself sick after eating all 12 contestants’ dishes on the first day of filming.

The Little Britain comedian, 46, got carried away with sampling their signature bakes.

A TV insider said: “Matt was naturally very excited about his new role and really threw himself into the Bake Off experience.

“When he saw all the treats on offer he took the opportunity to do what he couldn’t as a viewer — taste them.

“But there’s a reason Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith only take small mouthfuls when they’re judging and why co-host Noel Fielding only samples the bakes every now and again.

“He certainly felt the effects of overindulging. But it was worth him learning this valuable lesson early.”

Matt — famed for his Baked Potato Song — replaced Sandi Toksvig, 62, who had been a regular since the move from BBC to Channel 4 in 2017.

Matt joked of his hiring in March: “Bearing in mind my love of cake, I’ve already ordered some larger trousers.”

Filming began a few weeks ago after it was postponed from April because of Covid-19. Producers have also moved the famous tent from Welford Park, Berks, to Essex.

Bake Off is set to return in September with bumper 90-minute episodes — and even bigger spreads for Matt.
