First trailer for gruesome Netflix thriller Ratched sees Sarah Paulson butcher asylum patients as twisted nurse
NETFLIX has released its first trailer for new thriller Ratched – giving a sneak peek at Sarah Pulson’s version of the twisted nurse from One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.
Ratched is an origin story about the iconic character first introduced in Ken Kesey’s 1962 novel and made unforgettable in the 1975 Academy Award-winning film of the same name.
The Milos Forman-directed film starred Jack Nicholson as a newly admitted patient at an Oregon psychiatric hospital, where Nurse Ratched oversees patients.
Netflix’s Ratched, created by Evan Romansky and executive produced by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, is a prequel to One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, with Pulson, 45, starring as eponymous character Mildred Ratched.
The series delves into Nurse Ratched’s past and how she became a terrifying medical overlord in an asylum.
Excited Pulson tweeted the trailer to the 18-episode series on Tuesday and said: “You know the legend, but do you know how it all began?”
The bone-chilling trailer shows Mildred Ratched arriving in California shortly after World War II to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital, where new and unsettling experiments have begun.
It teases a perfect image of Mildred and what a dedicated nurse should be like.
The series follows her as she evolves from an obedient nurse to a merciless villain who abuses her power and terrorises the patients.
And the drama ramps up when she “begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it.
“Mildred’s stylish exterior belies a growing darkness that has long been smouldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born,” Netflix add.
One creepy scene in the trailer sees a fellow nurse steal Ratched’s peach from the staff room fridge.
“What are you going to do about it?” Nurse Betsy Bucket, played by Judy Davis, asks her.
When Ratched doesn’t respond, Bucket asks whether she can hear.
“I’m just thinking about all the things I’m going to do about it,” Ratched responds.
From the creator of American Horror Story, Ratched comes to Netflix 18th September.
