Britney Spears demands court free her from her father Jamie’s control once and for all
BRITNEY Spears has requested for a court to remove her father Jamie's control once and for all.
The Sun can confirm that the former singer wants her dad out as the head of her financial and personal care.
Britney's manager Jodi Montgomery temporarily took over the role in September 2019 when Jamie asked to be removed for "personal health" reasons.
Now, according to court documents obtained by The Sun, Britney's attorney claims"strongly prefers" that Jodi stay on in a permanent role, and that the singer "is strongly opposed" to Jamie continuing as the only person handling her estate.
Jamie has been single-handedly managing the estate since since last year.
The documents read: "Britney is strongly opposed to having [Jamie] return as conservator of her person.
"Rather, she strongly prefers to have Ms. Montgomery continue in that role as has done for nearly a year... Britney would like Ms. Montgomery's appointment as conservator of her person to be made permanent."
What is conservatorship?
According to the Superior Court of California, conservatorship in the United States is a legal practice that allows a judge to grant full control over an individual’s finances to a guardian if that person can't manage them on their own.
It can be for both physical or mental reasons.
Since 2008, Britney has been subject to a legal conservatorship - making her dad Jamie her legal guardian, with direct control over her financial affairs and daily life.
As her conservator, 68-year-old Jamie’s tasks include overseeing Britney’s business affairs, some personal assets, legal matters and family law issues.
He also negotiated his daughter’s 2012 stint as a judge on the US X Factor series.
The conservator role is up for review on August 22 and Britney's fans hope she will be "freed" from the legal arrangement then.
The documents, seen by The Sun, show that Britney is "strongly opposed to Jamie continuing as sole conservator of her estate" and that she prefers "to have a qualified corporate fiduciary appointed to serve in this role."
It is unclear if she is happy for Jamie to work alongside that entity.
The documents also state that " to reflect her current lifestyle and her wishes" - confirming reports that the star no longer wishes to perform at this moment in time.
There will be a hearing on Wednesday to address Britney's requests.
Last month, revealed in a rare interview that his
The film producer told the podcast: “[Britney’s] always wanted to get out of [the conservatorship]. It’s very frustrating to have.
“Whether someone’s coming in peace to help or coming in with an attitude, having someone constantly tell you to do something has got to be frustrating."
