You won’t believe what Rachel Jordache from Brookside’s doing now!
Actress Tiffany Chapman is now selling mortgages to Top Cat and his friends
SOAP fans will remember her best as innocent and doe-eyed Rachel Jordache from Brookside – but they’ll never believe what she’s up to now.
Because actress Tiffany Chapman is all grown up – and selling mortgages to cartoon legend Top Cat.
Tiffany, 37, is part of the current TV ad campaign for building society Halifax which features the animated cat.
In the commercial, Top Cat and his faithful sidekick Benny approach Tiffany, who is suited and booted in her Halifax uniform, begging for money.
Top Cat then gives her his spiel about his trash can home being taken away and crushed by the dustmen, while Benny plays a mournful tune on his violin.
Flashing him her most sympathetic smile, Tiffany tells him a loan is not a problem and she sets out getting the paperwork in order.
It’s a far cry from her days on Brookside Close which were nothing but eventful.
Her character Rachel moved onto the Liverpool-set cul-de-sac with her mother Mandy, played by Sandra Maitland, and older sister Beth, played by award-winning actress Anna Friel.
They were fleeing her physically and sexually abusive father Trevor Jordache, played by Bryan Murray, who was about to be released from serving a prison sentence for assaulting Mandy.
Ironically, before he was convicted, he worked as a manager for a building society.
Then came the soap storyline that gripped the nation back in 1993 when Trevor was released from prison and found the family having traced Beth through her college and arrived on the Close and managed to worm his way back into the family.
But the abuse started again, physically towards Mandy and sexually towards Rachel, until eventually Beth and her reluctant mother hatched a plan to kill him and started to poison him with weed killer but it just made him ill.
He then caught them putting painkillers in his drink and started to beat up Beth but Mandy stabs him in the back which kills him and then they bury his body under the patio.
Tiffany, whose character went on to marry Mike Dixon and have a baby, left the soap in 2003 when the soap came to an end.
She then went on to star in as social worker Meg in Hollyoaks before joining the Emmerdale cast as nurse Cindy Burton.
