‘Publicity-seeking’ Rebekah Vardy sat behind Coleen Rooney at Euro 2016 to ‘maximise media attention’, say court docs

REBEKAH Vardy sat behind Coleen Rooney at Euro 2016 to “maximise media attention”, bombshell court documents say.

Explosive legal documents filed at the High Court allege that “publicity seeking” Rebekah, 38, ditched her allocated seats for the England vs Wales match after learning they were too far back in the stands.

She then got up and sat behind Coleen, 34, in order to “guarantee her appearance in the media”, the papers say.

However, it turned out the seats behind Coleen – wife of Wayne Rooney – were reserved for the FA security team.

When asked to move back to her allocated seats further back, the documents allege that Rebekah’s guests refused and were “abusive to the liaison officer”.

The documents say: “Amongst her other publicity seeking behaviour, the Claimant sat behind the Defendant on the match of 16 June 2016, so that she would guarantee her appearance in the media.

"At that match, the Claimant had around five seats allocated to her in line with FA practice at the time.

"The Claimant refused to sit in her allocated seats in the circumstances below, instead choosing to sit by the Defendant.

"All of the seats allocated to the Claimant were several rows behind where she actually chose to sit.

"The rows directly behind the Defendant, where the Claimant and her guests sat, were in fact reserved for Football Association (“FA”) security.

"Ten minutes before the start of the match, the FA Liaison Officer told members of the Claimant’s party that they were not sitting in the correct seats and that the seats they were sitting in were specifically reserved for FA security.

"They were asked to move. The Claimant’s guests refused and were abusive to the liaison officer.

Amongst her other publicity seeking behaviour, the Claimant sat behind the Defendant on the match of 16 June 2016, so that she would guarantee her appearance in the media."

"As a result, FA security were forced to sit elsewhere."

It comes after Coleen sensationally accused Rebekah of being a “serial leaker” as the two WAGs go head-to-head in a High Court battle.

Coleen alleges Rebekah has a "habitual practice of providing private information".

Rebekah - wife of Leicester City star Jamie Vardy - filed a libel action against Coleen after Coleen set up a “sting” on her private Instagram account.

This week, The Sun revealed Coleen wanted to avoid going to court and her lawyer confirmed she had been keen to settle.

Her lawyer said: "She remains surprised and disappointed at Mrs Vardy's decision to initiate these proceedings and to continue to pursue these matters through the courts."

But after her legal team filed the 55-page document it seems the explosive showdown sparked by the infamous Wagatha Christie row will go ahead.

Coleen's lawyers have accused "publicity-seeking" Rebekah of leaking stories to raise her own profile.

The court documents show Coleen stands by the accusations made on social media that Rebekah leaked stories about her.

The papers hit back at Rebekah's complaint that Coleen's post naming her as the secret source saw searches on her name topple searches about Brexit.

It comes days after Rebekah vowed to clear her name, telling Good Morning Britain: "We tried to sort things out amicably but it didn't work. I understand people think it's ridiculous but what was I meant to do?

"I need to clear my name, I want to clear my name. I will do whatever it takes, and I hope it's going to be resolved soon."

'CLEAR MY NAME'

A spokesman for Coleen Rooney said of the document: "Coleen has always been confident of her position, although she takes no pleasure in now having to set out in public court documents the reasons why.

"It remains a matter of deep regret to her that Rebekah seems determined to persist with court action despite Coleen's offers of private mediation. Coleen believes the money being spent could be put to much better use in these times."

Last October, mum-of-four Coleen claimed in a bombshell social media post how one of her friends was leaking stories about her.

She wrote: “After a long time of trying to figure out who it could be for various reasons, I had a suspicion.”

Coleen claimed she posted a string of false stories via her Instagram account with restricted access to see if they appeared in the media, which they did.

She then said the fake stories had only been viewed by one person, and ended dramatically "it’s . . . Rebekah Vardy’s account", which Rebekah has denied.

The case is unlikely to reach a full trial until next year at the earliest.
