Speaking to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on today's show, Dr Hilary revealed he was "thrilled and humbled" to be recognised in the Queen's birthday honours.
However, news of his achievement was followed by the inevitable backlash from trolls in the social media world.
Hilary explained: "People that disagree with my opinions over the pandemic have been quite vile with their messaging.
"We all know that people remember the one message that is horrible, that’s the one you look at."
One Twitter user said: "Why has Dr Hilary Jones been awarded the MBE?, he is on a tv programme getting paid for his opinion. What a joke."
"Dr Hilary Jones an MBE what an utter farce!!! Definitely lowering the accolade of being an MBE."
"What’s DrHilary got an MBE for? Going 6 months without a day offf."
But his co-stars came to his defence, with Susanna saying: "I’m sorry about that. What is wrong with people?’
While Piers said: "There’s a lot of morons out there."
The highly thought of doctor also downplayed his own work, telling the hosts: "I was thrilled, obviously, and humbled as well. Certainly the last year, I’m aware that so many more people are deserving, more deserving than me."
