Bake Off fans slam show as ‘racist’ as third BAME contestant Sura is sent home – but Lottie is saved

THE Great British Bake Off fans have accused the show of being racist after its third BAME contestant got the boot last night.

Sura, 31, was sent packing from the tent while Lottie was saved during Chocolate Week.

Viewers took to Twitter to vent their frustrations at the elimination with one complaining: "GBBO is racist!"

A second fumed: "This is the THIRD time a person of colour has been sent home over a white contestant!!!

"As a brown person I'm beyond upset but not surprised, I’m afraid @PaulHollywood@BritishBakeOff this needs to be sorted I’m fed up."

While a third added: "I'm watching #BakeOff for the first time ever and all I am seeing is that the star baker is always a man and the eliminated baker is always a person of colour."

The fourth episode saw chocolate on the menu with the remaining hopefuls tasked with making some sweet treats.

Sura, a pharmacy dispenser from London, came seventh in the brownie Technical Challenge, but she really struggled with her Showstopper.

But, as many pointed out, Sura wasn't totally blameless as she served up a raw cake.

Others defended the decision and wrote: "Loads of people kicking off on Twitter saying Lottie should have left. Mate. Sura couldn't bake a cake. It was INEDIBLE."

Viewers were left shocked as none of the bakers managed to make a decent brownie.

The remaining bakers tried to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith with their exotic brownies - but their plan to show off soon backfired.

Lottie came worse off as she was forced to put her brownies in the freezer to set leaving them soggy and covered in “freezer juice”.

Against the odds, Mark won Star Baker.

The mum-of-three said in 2016: “I expect to be shoved, pushed or verbally abused. It happens. It’s happened for years.”

But the Luton-born Muslim, praised for her positive community role, told Desert Island Discs: "I love being British and I love living here, this is my home and it always will be regardless of all the other things that define me.

"This is my home and I want my kids to be proud of that and I don't want them to grow up with a chip on their shoulder, so I live as positively as I can."
