Piers Morgan furiously clashes with Susanna Reid after saying vegans shouldn’t be allowed to use the word burger on GMB

PIERS Morgan flipped over vegans using the word burger on today's Good Morning Britain.

The 55-year-old clashed with co-host Susanna Reid, 49, after he insisted vegan burgers should be called something else due to the absence of meat.

The argument came about following reports that McDonald's are releasing a plant-based line of items next year.

Piers sneered: "The McPlant, the meat-free range, it's obviously total nonsense."

He then explained how he agreed with the National Beef Association who had stated McDonald's should stop using the term burger to describe the new product because it’s false marketing.

Susanna retorted: "A veggie burger is a burger.

"It’s a burger just because it doesn’t have the word meat in it, it’s not a beetburger [beetroot burger], it’s a burger."

But Piers refused to back down, arguing: "Look it up in the dictionary, a burger is a meat product, so is a sausage. Why do vegans want to use our language?"

His irritated co-host hit back: "What do you mean, 'our language'? Are we allowed to use the word food or is that your language?"

Piers continued arguing that food "is not descriptive of meat", whereas a burger is - adding that France ban the use of meat language when discussing veggie products.

The debate continued to go round in circles, with Piers still refusing to buckle even when Susanna pulled up the official dictionary definition of a burger.

Reading it out she said: "It’s made of meat or other food made into a round, fairly fast shape, fried and usually eaten between two halves of a bread roll."

But Susanna declared it a victory, adding: "I think you’ve just been comprehensibly dismissed," as Piers continued to argue.

The divisive TV presenter regularly speaks out against veganism, with he and Susanna regularly clashing over their views on the issue on the breakfast show.

He'd previously taken issue with Greggs releasing a range of products suitable for vegans - including sausage rolls and steak bakes.
