Phillip Schofield says his relationship with wife Steph is ‘a work in progress’ after coming out as gay
PHILLIP Schofield has revealed that his relationship with wife Steph is a "work in progress" after coming out as gay.
The This Morning presenter, 58, admitted that they continue to "pick our way through" as a family.
Phil came out live on the ITV show in February, with the support of his wife of 27 years, Stephanie Lowe, 56, and daughters Molly 27, and Ruby, 24.
The Million Pound Cube host remains married to Steph and lives at the family home.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Phil opened up about his relationship with Steph since coming out as gay.
He said: "We love each other massively. We are a loving family, that hasn't changed... it's us four but different.
"We are a work in progress. I've been very honest about all of this and there's no question, we have to pick our way through this daily as a family.
"And that's what we are doing. We are making our way through very unusual and unexpected waters."
Phillip recently said that his late dad would have been proud of him for coming out as gay in his emotional This Morning interview.
The popular telly star told how he asked his mum Pat, 84, what his father, Brian, would have made of the brave moment.
Phillip said: "That's like a grenade going off in my head.
"When I went down to Cornwall when I told my mum, I said, 'What do you think dad would have said? Would he still be proud?'
"Thankfully she said, 'Yes… he'll think you're brave and he will always be proud of you.' So that is good... My dad was one of the kindest, sweetest, most lovely people ever."
Phillip recently said he came out as gay to "save himself" after being tortured by the secret.
He opened up about his decision to come out in February, saying things had got "that dark" in his head.
Phillip also revealed he visited his mother in Cornwall after she grew concerned about his stress-induced weight loss.
Speaking on Ireland's The Late Late Show with Ryan Tubridy, he said: "I had long conversations with Steph [his wife], we talked about it a lot.
"It was really beginning to trip me up, mess with my head.
"It started off with a little bit of confusion, then my head managed to turn it into something really big, scary and dark. Steph and I went through that together."
