DANCING On Ice champ Alex Murphy has landed her first presenting gig - six months after her controversial axing from the ITV show.

The US pro, who won the 2020 series with partner Joe Swash, is fronting Celebs Go Skating in which she’ll interview celebrities about their careers and relationships on the ice.

And it’s already proving more dangerous than her previous job, revealing she escaped serious injury when footie WAG and Housewives of Cheshire star Tanya Bardsley accidentally took her out during filming.

In an exclusive chat, Alex says: “I’ve skated with some tough boys before, Joe Swash, Brian McFadden, Kem Cetiney, but nobody has even taken me down except for Tanya Bardsley.

“She literally climbed on top of me and knocked me down and I fell on top of her.

“Tanya was like Bambi, she had never skated before and was the only interview we had to do sitting down on the side of the rink.

“But those celebrities feel so vulnerable on the ice they don’t know what they’re staying, so they told me some really good stuff.”

Other stars appearing on the series - produced by Inside Trak and written and directed by Sheridan de Myers - include Blue singer Antony Costa, Gogglebox favourite Amy Tapper and Love Island’s Amy Hart.

She will also be grilling her boyfriend, online prankster Paul Klein from duo Woody and Kleiny, who recently fronted I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!’s new TikTok content.

Alex, whose new series kicks off on YouTube on Boxing Day, was told her Dancing On Ice contract would not be renewed two months after winning the 2020 series last April.

The decision left her “heartbroken” and was heavily criticised by ex-EastEnders star Joe plus 2019 champ James Jordan.

But she’s now reaping the benefits the exposure of her exit gave her, securing a starring role on ITV’s The Full Monty On Ice alongside Ashley Banjo, which airs this week, and now Celebs Go Skating.

She adds: “It was the best thing and worst thing to happen to me.

“I was devastated at the time but I do believe everything happens for a reason, I’ve always believed that, so the minute that door closed, others opened.”
