Coldplay wow audiences with pitch perfect performance and pay tribute to Viola Beach
The boys also had fireworks and a rainbow glitter cannon as 100,000 fans wore interactive LCD wristbands
IT May have been a rainy and muddy weekend but for fans of Coldplay this weekend’s trip to Glastonbury was more than worth the wait.
They lived up to their super band reputation tonight as they took to the stage to perform their notable hits as well as amazing tunes from their latest album.
But it was their tribute to the band members of Viola beach who tragically died in February this year that wowed audiences.
Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, Will Champion and Phil Harvey came back on stage for their grand finale and paid tribute to the English indie rock group from Warrington, Cheshire who were killed in a car accident in Sweden.
And not to shy away from controversy their appearance on stage came with a political message too.
The band played Charlie Chaplin’s speech from The Great Dictator, the first sound film he ever produced which was created to denounce Hitler, Mussolini, fascism and anti-Semitism which was plaguing the planet in the 1940’s.
“The Kingdom of God is within man – not one man nor a group of men, but in all men,” the speech said.
“In you! You, the people have the power – the power to create machines.
“The power to create happiness!
“You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure.”
After the band performed their second song Yellow, Chris Martin then went on to say he believes he has reasons to be optimistic.
He said:”We came here a little bit scared about the state of the world, but just seeing the vibe at Glastonbury makes me think people are great and together we can do wonderful, wonderful things.
“Thank you for restoring my faith in the world.”
And it seems even music lovers who weren’t exactly overawed with the band were sucked in by their amazing gig with critics on twitter even turning into fans!
While the band finished off their gig playing Vida la Vida, those attending the concert have been issued with updated advice on leaving the site.
Advice published on the official website states: “There are likely to be some delays leaving the site. Go to the toilet before you set off. Have drinks, snacks and any essential medication with you.
“And if your vehicle has a towing eye, please attach this ready for possible towing.”
