“If you don’t want anything to happen, I’ll make sure nothing happens.”

Addressing her decision in the Beach Hut, Sophie explained: “In all honesty, putting him in a bed outside tonight is kind of a test. I wanted to see if he would respect me, respect my wishes, and see if he would do it without complaint, and without throwing his dummies out the pram. Distance makes the heart grow fonder.”

And it certainly seemed to work as the next morning desperate Tom brought Sophie tea and toast for breakfast.

Looking pretty pleased with herself, Sophie admitted: “I’m not going to lie; I did miss Tom being in bed with me last night. He’s really, really grafting. I like this Tom.”

Tom explained to Adam his motives behind bringing Sophie breakfast in bed, saying: “I brought her breakfast to show her I wasn’t angry or upset or whatever.”

Adam told Tom that if he kept things up, he’d eventually be able to win Sophie back.

He said: “What you’re doing is working perfectly, giving Sophie her own space and taking a back step.

"The fact you didn’t start an argument over staying downstairs, I think she respected that. She’s a strong-minded girl. You’re going to pull it back.”

Tom concluded: “If she doesn’t want me, she doesn’t want me and there’s nothing I can do about it. At least I can say I’ve tried and if I’ve gone through all this effort to show I’ve changed and she still doesn’t want me, then I can accept that.”

Yesterday viewers watched as Tom tried his hardest to act like he didn’t care while Sophie got to know the new Islanders and even enjoying a mini date with one of them.

It didn’t take long for him to practically beg Sophie to take him back though, as he told her: “I know I should have, and I know I f***ed up big time with you. This whole thing has made me rethink the whole situation and make me rethink me and you. You’ve made me change.”

In an epic monologue, which left those at home cringing, he continued: “I’m becoming a man again, slowly but surely I’m becoming a man again. I promise you that this whole situation has scared the life out of me so much that it’s made me never ever want to be like that again. Whether it’s with you or with someone else, it doesn’t matter anymore.

"You matter the world to me. You’re my main priority, there’s nothing else that compares to you.

"You’re the one thing that I have to look after in this life. I’ve never wanted to fight for something as much in my entire life. Usually I just walk; I can’t do that with you. It doesn’t matter how long it takes to prove it to you, I will prove it to you.

";Hand on heart, I will try everything to make this work because you do mean the world to me and I can’t let this go like this. I’m never going to look elsewhere. I just can’t risk losing this feeling. I just wanted you to know.”
