Amanda Holden says she’s ‘delighted’ Britain’s Got Talent is postponed and promises it’ll be back in Autumn

AMANDA Holden has said she's 'delighted' Britain's Got Talent has been postponed - but promised it'll be back in Autumn.

Last month, The Sun's Bizarre revealed the beloved talent show would held up for weeks because of the Government's recent Covid-19 rule changes.

And now Amanda revealed that the auditions that were due to go ahead this month have been pushed back until Autumn.

Speaking on her Heart Breakfast Show with Jamie Theakston, she shared: "We were due to start filming on the 18th of January and then it was pushed to the 28th and then we got the call yesterday [Thursday] before the press release just saying, look I think out of every show on television Britain’s Got Talent needs the audience.

"We need you guys, because we call them the fifth judge and it just makes no sense not to have them behind us."

When asked by her co-host whether she was "happy" with the decision, Amanda said: "I'm delighted.

"I think it affects the show and it affects the quality of the show and with the biggest will in the world – because there’s so much hard work backstage and everyone’s really done a huge effort to make it the best show it can be - it still affects it, so I would rather wait and make it the best it can be and put it on in the Autumn".

Although she agreed that it was for the best, Amanda said she'll miss Simon, who missed the Autumn live shows following a terrifying electric bike accident in August.

The broadcaster added: "I'll miss Simon though. It will be nearly two years since I’ve actually touched him!"

Last month, we originally reported that hopeful acts due to perform in front of a socially distanced audience at the London Coliseum theatre between January 17 and 20 would have to wait at least another two weeks.

The initial report followed the imposition of stringent Tier 4 restrictions across the capital.

The source said: "Covid’s causing havoc with BGT filming. The producers want to keep viewers entertained and put a smile on people’s faces but the safety of the cast, crew and contestants is the priority.

"It is at the centre of every decision.

"A live audience and their reaction is a vital part of the show’s success, too, so producers want to keep that element and, if it all means delays, then so be it."

However, Amanda's news that the show will now be postponed until Autumn is due to UK going into lockdown as it tries to control the growing Covid-19 cases.

Yesterday, the UK suffered its darkest day yet in the pandemic - with a record 68,053 infections and 1,325 deaths.

The number of daily fatalities has more than doubled in a week, surpassing the previous peak of 1,224 deaths recorded on April 21.
