LET IT GO!

Married At First Sight’s Steph and Jonathan are STILL married two years later as he’s blocking divorce

MARRIED At First Sight 2019’s Steph and Jonathan are STILL married more than two years after they split up.

The couple, who tied the knot in December 2018 for the C4 show, split just weeks after walking up the aisle after a disastrous honeymoon in Spain - but insiders say Jonathan is blocking the divorce and ‘refusing to let go’.

“It’s a nightmare for Steph, who just wants to move on,” says the source. “Jonathan is refusing to sign divorce papers so they’re still legally married.”

The insider adds that “Steph and Jonathan were never really a couple - it was pretty obvious there was no connection between them from the second they got married, but they tried to give it a go and get on.

“But at the end of the day, they had nothing in common and nobody knows why the experts matched them. Steph thought he was a nice bloke, but there was nothing there romantically.

“Now, it’s turned into a nightmare because he’s refusing to end the marriage. It’s almost like he can’t deal with the fact that it didn’t work out, and now Steph’s stuck in the marriage and can’t move forward.”

On the show, viewers watched as Steph, a 29-year-old nurse from Yeovil, married complete stranger Jonathan, a 39-year-old property manager from Bristol, after being matched by experts.

The series aired in early 2019, and it was originally Jonathan who instigated the break-up, handing Steph annulment papers in an envelope for Christmas in 2018.

But he later admitted on camera that he regretted it - however, Steph was ready to move on and after speaking to the show’s relationship expert, the pair agreed to start divorce proceedings, divided up their wedding gifts and decided to travel the world - separately.

However, an insider says that after the cameras stopped rolling, Jonathan seemed to change his mind and has “clung on” to the relationship.

“Steph had to ask the production company to ask Jonathan to stop sending her these ‘creepy’ cards - he’d always contact her on her birthday and Christmas, and she just wants to forget about the whole thing and move on,” says the insider.

“She felt she got an unfair edit on the show, and now she’s stuck in a marriage she regrets. It’s awful for her. C4 have been as helpful as they can be, but if Jonathan refuses to sign the papers, there’s not much they can do about it.”

C4, Steph and Jonathan had no comment when contacted by The Sun Online.
