CBS' upcoming psychological crime series Clarice is ready for it's television debut this week.
The series will star Rebecca Breeds as Clarice Starling, Devyn Tyler as Ardelia Mapp and Lucca Oliveira as Tomas Esquivel, and will take place a year after the events of the 1991 movie The Silence of the Lambs.
What is the new CBS crime series Clarice about?
Clarice dives deep into the untold personal story of FBI agent Clarice Starling, as she returns to the field in 1993, one year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs.
While on the field, Clarice continues her pursue for serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high-stakes political world of .
"Clarice's bravery gives her an inner light that draws monsters and madmen to her," CBS explains about Clarice.
"Her complex psychological makeup that comes from a challenging childhood empowers her to begin to find her voice while working in a man's world, as well as escape the family secrets that have haunted her throughout her life."
Is Clarice based on The Silence of the Lambs?
Clarice is set in 1993, a year after the events of the 90s movie The Silence of the Lambs.
In the 1991 thriller, Clarice is a young FBI trainee who is hunting the serial killer, "Buffalo Bill", who skins his female victims.
To catch him, she seeks the advice of imprisoned Dr Hannibal Lecter, a psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer.
The 90s flick ended when Clarice received a phone call from Lecter during her FBI Academy graduation party.
Lector calls Clarice from Bimini airport, he wishes her well and says he must go because he's "having an old friend for dinner".
Lector trails an unsuspecting Dr Frederick Chilton into the crowd and disappears.
The Silence of the Lambs was released on February 14, 1991, and won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay.
