Hugh, 58, starred in the sitcom which saw parents Pete and Sue Brockman, constantly struggling to keep the upper hand with their three children.

Speaking about the popular BBC show, the comedian said: “I really liked making it, and I’d be very happy to do some more.

He told the : “Maybe in 20 years when the children are looking after us. That would be a great format.”

Outnumbered ran on BBC1 from 2007 for five seasons until 2014, before returning for a Christmas special in 2016.

The three children were played by Tyger Drew-Honey, Daniel Roche and Ramona Marquez.

Discussing the show’s popularity, Hugh went on: “I think it was one of those sitcoms that acknowledged how difficult it is to bring up kids and what an unholy mess it is, quite often.

“That stuff is confusing and confused.”

He added: “The number of people who have come up to me and said, ‘You are basically telling me the story of my own life.’

“But I would like to say that I’m a much better father than I appear to be on Outnumbered.”

Hugh starred alongside Claire Skinner in Outnumbered, before the on-screen couple went on to date in real life.

The couple are thought to have started dating in 2017 after splitting from their respective partners.

Claire confirmed her relationship with Dennis in an interview with The Times not long after, and said that “nobody really noticed” when they first started dating.

“People said to us that someone will notice soon but I kept telling them, ‘We’re both over 50. Why would anyone be interested in that?'” she said. “We’ve got families we wanted to protect, but everybody’s pretty cool and happy with it.”

During her interview with Lorraine back in 2019, the host said to the actress: “And of course, you two are together, I didn’t even know that! That’s brilliant, congratulations.”

To which Claire replied: “It’s a lovely little life surprise, isn’t it! It’s been lovely.”
