Concerned mum keeps in touch with the band's team
DENISE Welch calls The 1975's security team to check up on her rock star son when he is away on tour.
The TV veteran admits she struggles to keep up with the musician's hectic tour schedule and he rarely has time to phone home, so she has regular chats with the band's burly bodyguards.
Matt, 27, is Denise's son from her marriage to actor Tim Healy and
he shot to fame as frontman of the rock group in 2013.
They have since gone from strength-to-strength and are currently on a world tour, and Denise admits she struggles to stay in touch with Matt as he is so busy.
The pair rarely talk on the phone and she cannot keep up with his hectic tour schedule, so she gets regular updates from the band's security guards.
During an appearance on Good Morning Britain today, Denise explained: "He's on a world tour so I never know where he is from one minute to the next... I miss him so much because I've lost him to this world...
"[He texts me] just 'k' or just kiss so I phone security Mark and find out where he is and what they are doing but you know of course I miss him but I couldn't be more thrilled (that he is doing well)."
Denise went on to joke that Matt has compared her to a character from hit mobster TV show The Sopranos - family matriarch Carmela, who was played by Edie Falco.
She added: "He said I'm turning into the mother from The Sopranos like, 'You don't call, you don't ring, I make you tea you don't come..."
Denise went on to laugh about her star's rock star status, joking with hosts Ben Shepherd and Susanna Reid: "He just sold out the O2 [Arena in London] in three hours and it's when things like that happen I think how did you come out of me?"
Matt and his bandmates recently wowed the crowd at Open'er festival in Poland with an impressive set which saw them power through hits such as 'Love Me', 'Heart Out' and 'The Sound'.
Despite having to start their set later than planned due to a storm, the British group had the crowd dancing with an energetic set as Matt said: "We're the 1975. Everything's f**ked but we're good, right? I know it's miserable, but you've just got to start jumping up and down."
