Masterchef stars Gregg Wallace and John Torode say they are better looking than Ant & Dec
MASTERCHEF duo Gregg Wallace and John Torode are a match made in TV heaven – just like Saturday Night Takeaway duo Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly.
But how do the kitchen kings rate themselves against the Geordie lads?
When asked in an exclusive interview, “Are you a more mature and wise Ant and Dec?”
Gregg quipped: “No — actually, I think we’re a more attractive Ant and Dec.”
John added: “Are we more mature? Well, we’re definitely older!”
Masterchef returns to our screens next week for its 17th series.
The competition will no doubt rest on a knife edge once more as the fresh set of cooks show off their signature dishes in a bid to please the Aussie chef and East End foodie — or as Gregg likes to call himself, “the spoon-for-hire”.
And fans will be pleased to know that the pair intend to continue making the BBC1 show — which returns on March 1 at 9pm — for as long as they can.
Gregg said: “I’m never going to stop doing it. I expect to be doing that when I’m 90 years old. That’s my happy place, that is, Masterchef.”
But the pair have more than one happy place — being at home with their respective wives.
John, who married actress and fellow chef Lisa Faulkner in 2019, gushed: “She makes me see the real. She makes me see the achievable. She makes me see the egalitarian.
“She really makes that happen and, yes, she’s a great leveller. And she’s very honest and she makes me smile.”
Gregg also can’t believe his luck having wife of four years Anne-Marie Sterpini on his arm, saying: “Well, look at Mrs Wallace — my bald head clearly hasn’t stopped me attracting my beautiful wife.”

But Gregg admits that even his loving wife can no longer keep up with all his telly appearances.
He revealed: “My wife now doesn’t watch everything that I do. I’ll say to her, ‘Did you watch that?’ And she’ll say, ‘Er, no’.
“I say to her, ‘Darling, you know if you were on the telly, I’d watch you’. But she says, ‘Yeah but you’re on all the time!’”
