The ginger presenter then goes on to describe the whole experience as a “complete honour” and a “privilege”.

Chris, 50, also says that he tried to “make the best show” he possibly could.

His comments come after the TV and radio star resigned from the newly revamped car show after just one season at its helm.

He announced the news on Twitter claiming that he had given it his “best shot”.

Chris told his 2.31million followers: “Stepping down from Top Gear. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that’s not enough.

“The team are beyond brilliant, I wish them all the best.”

In his column today he claims he was a “square peg in a round hole”.

Chris says: “One way or another, however, the Top Gear ship has been steadily refloated, a new production team and presentation team established and I, for one, will continue to be a huge fan. “

A friend told Sunday People that John “knows where the bodies are buried.”

“However, it’s the details he has about the real Chris Evans which will be particularly explosive and revealing.
