Top Gear Christmas specials cancelled as bosses fight to save failing show

As ratings hit an all-time low, there’ll be no festive cheer this year

TOP Gear has cancelled its two Christmas specials in the wake of Chris Evans quitting and ratings hitting a record low.

BBC bosses had planned to film the extra festive episodes as part of the new series, but have now decided they need to focus on saving the show.

A source told The Star: “We need to focus on making sure we have a great series to come back with in 2017.

"So all our energies are on that.”

They added that despite Christmas being cancelled, the team are feeling positive about the new year.

“Planning for Top Gear series 24 is under way.

“The team will be working towards bringing the show back some time in the early part of 2017.”

Matt LeBlanc is expected to lead the show when it returns, and Chris has already voiced his support for him.

Writing in his Mail column he said: “For me, he is the man. He is the captain Top Gear truly needs going forward, the perfect torso for the rest of TG’s limbs.”
