Television’s most dangerous show – The Jump – will return despite celebrity injuries
Channel 4 show pulled in an impressive 2.3million viewers and will once again be fronted by Davina McCall
CHANNEL 4 will need to put the paramedics on standby as television’s most dangerous show is returning.
I can reveal that, despite seven celebrities needing medical treatment during the last series, there WILL be another series of The Jump.
After months of uncertainty channel bosses have reviewed the winter sports’ show’s safety standards and have given it the all-clear to come back to our screens for a fourth series.
The show, which regularly pulled in an impressive 2.3million viewers, will once again be fronted by the brilliant DAVINA McCALL as famous faces take to the slopes.
A show source said: “For good and bad reasons The Jump was one of the most talked about shows on television last year.
“It still pulls in big names and offers up drama that longer-running shows do not.
“It’s the only reality show of its kind — and it gives it something else compared to other shows.
“The uncertainty and the occasional injury make it all the more interesting.
“An official announcement will come in due course, but from Channel 4’s point of view it’s a done deal.”
Last year’s competition was a particular headache for bosses as seven celebrities had to call in doctors after nasty falls.
The most seriously injured was Olympic bronze medal-winning gymnast BETH TWEDDLE, below in neck brace.
She feared she could be paralysed after fracturing two vertebrae following a crashing fall during training.
Other celebs who took nasty tumbles filming in Austria included HEATHER MILLS, who had knee ligament damage, swimmer REBECCA ADLINGTON dislocated a shoulder and Made in Chelsea’s MARK FRANCIS VANDELLI broke an ankle.
They were joined on the sidelines by Holby City’s TINA HOBLEY, athlete LINFORD CHRISTIE and Girls Aloud’s SARAH HARDING.
Previous winners of The Jump have been X Factor champion JOE McELDERRY, Towie star JOEY ESSEX and last year retired rugby star BEN COHEN.
Producers have already started trying to recruit a new batch of celebs for the upcoming series.
Now that’s a tough job...
I'll be back, vows the fab Ms Flack
CAROLINE FLACK certainly hit the nail on the head during the first episode of this year’s Love Island when she said that it would be an “unforgettable six weeks”.
ITV2’s ratings went through the roof as the final drew in the show’s highest ever viewing figures with an audience of 1.3million and Caroline, seen here modelling a Speedo Sculpture swimsuit, was a hit throughout the series as she charted the islanders’ steamy antics.
And while her hosting duties came to an end this week, she has already renewed her Love Island contract.
Any criticism of her has been completely unfounded and I am thrilled to discover that she will be returning as the face of the popular show.
A telly insider told me: “Love Island has enjoyed incredible ratings and bringing Caroline back was a no-brainer.
“She’s great fun and has really appealed to the show’s young audience.
“All the raunchy scenes proved to be a huge driving force for the show and bosses are keen to cash in on the huge interest in TV sex next series.”
If next year’s islanders are as outrageous as this year’s, ratings are sure to keep rising.
The ex-factor
JESS GLYNNE helped CHERYL pick REGGIE ’N’ BOLLIE’s at last year’s X Factor Judges’ Houses – before the duo went on to finish runner-up on the show.
But the Brit singer-songwriter, above, has snubbed the ITV show this year, saying: “I won’t be going back. I think at that point in time I will be taking time out.
“It’s at the end of the year and I’m going to finish touring then. Right now my focus is on my music – reality TV isn’t for me.”
And she hopes to get ADELE to produce new music with her after the superstar said on stage at Glastonbury that she was a fan.
Jess, whose performance at the Isle of Malta music bash goes out on MTV Music on August 6 at 9pm, said: “I’m very grateful she’s a fan of my music and I find it weird when people like that know who you are. I would love to sing with her but I don’t know if she’s that kind of artist. I’ll try though!
“I haven’t had the chance to start album two yet but by the end of the year I’m going to start. I’m going to get back in with the people I worked with on the first record.”
Let’s hope Jess can get Adele to help out.
Poor old Kylie
WITH her final days ticking away you might have thought the CORONATION STREET scriptwriters would have given Kylie Platt a break before she is killed off in Friday’s episode.
But no, judging from tonight’s fun and games she will be glad it is all over.
She is left feeling riddled with guilt when she discovers Bethany Platt’s bullying ordeal.
Realising the full extent of Bethany’s trauma at the hands of Lauren and her gang, Kylie immediately starts to blame herself – finally now understanding to what extent her actions have caused pain for her family.
Just what can she do to help?
Kylie’s not the only one suffering in soapland.
During tonight’s episode of HOLLYOAKS, Ste Hay’s dark secret is uncovered by Harry Thompson as police raid The Tugboat. Can Harry help his troubled on-off boyfriend?
Answers on immigration
IMMIGRATION is one of the nation’s most-talked about topics following Brexit.
And now Channel 5 is hoping to address the difficult subject with new mockumentary, Borderline.
JACKIE CLUNE, who stars as border agent Proctor, admitted that at times the show gets quite “near the knuckle” with comments on immigration.
In an exclusive interview, she said: “This show addresses immigration in some silly ways but there are some serious things at stake as well, such as our whole approach to how we keep our borders.
“There’s paranoia that everyone’s trying to get in the UK and we’ve got to keep everyone out – a lot of daytime TV shows we’ve watched as research give that impression.
“On those programmes, border agents don’t come out of it very well. They seem vindictive but in reality, it’s not like that. They’re normal human beings.”
She’s clearly never been through Heathrow Terminal 5 in a hurry.
