It was announced on Sunday April 25, 2021, that Azaylia had passed away.

Ashley shared the heartbreaking news with fans online, writing: “Rest in paradise princess. I will always hold you in my heart until I can hold you again in heaven.”

Azaylia’s mum Safiyya later added: “You are my Angel my heartbeat my soul, RIP my precious baby, you will always be with me like a handprint on my heart.”

In August 2021, Ashley and Safiyya launched The Azaylia Foundation, which, among its many aims, hopes to alert other parents to the symptoms of leukaemia.

Ashley said at the time: “We want to honour Azaylia’s legacy to help others. This is about getting children and their families through the worst time of their lives.

“These cancers are only rare because no one is talking about them and raising awareness. We have a new purpose in life.

“Helping other children in Azaylia’s name means more to us than the air in our lungs.”

When did Safiyya Vorajee and Ashley Cain break up?

The Sun reported in March 2022 that the pair had split.

A source said at the time: “No one knows how something so tragic can affect a couple, and it’s been incredibly painful for them to make this decision.

“They will always love and support each other, and still live together, but the romantic side of their relationship has come to an end.”

Ashley and Safiyya then released a joint statement confirming the end of their relationship.

It said: “After a devastating and heartbreaking year, Safiyya and I decided to separate a few months ago.

“This was an incredibly tough decision which we needed to keep to ourselves for some time to give us the opportunity to figure out our own journey privately.

“The past few months have demonstrated that we remain the closest of friends, spending time together everyday and that we will love, care and support each other forever.

“We are bonded by our powerful journey together, by the eternal love we have for our daughter and our passionate commitment to her foundation.”

The break up came just a year after the heartbreaking death of the former couple’s daughter.

Safiyya has since spoken about the prospect of finding love again.

Speaking to Closer, she said: “Thinking of the future still makes me panic.

“My future was with Ashley and Azaylia – they were who I was building my life for.”

She added: “I’ve built this toughness to protect myself. I hope there is someone out there who I can build with in the future. I think I’ll get there in time.”
