Simon Cowell’s ‘biggest mistake’ returns to the X Factor auditions
Irish gal Janet Grogan lost out on a place in the live shows to Robert Pattison's sister Lizzy
SIMON Cowell got quite the shock when his "biggest" X factor mistake returned to the audition room recently.
Irish girl Janet Grogan made it to the judges' house back in 2014 but lost out on a place in the live shows at the last minute.
The bubbly brunette looked set to sail through to the final 12 but Simon decided to dump her in favour of Twilight star Robert Pattison's little sister Lizzy.
Viewers were shocked by 'Mr Nasty's' decision with many speculating that he only put her through because of her famous sibling.
Host Dermot O'Leary gave her a hug and said: "That was so hard to watch, I am so, so sorry."
The crowds booed Simon's decision and he said: "I wish I could start this day all over again.”
At the time, Simon publicly acknowledged his faux pas and tweeted: "I should have kept Janet. My mistake."
However, Janet has returned to have another go at pop stardom.
The 26-year-old is determined to impress the judges after a failed attempt to represent Ireland at the Eurovision song contest earlier this year.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Janet said: “X Factor was a bit humiliating for me and it took me a long time to get back on my feet. But I am over it now. I just want to sing.”
A show source added: “Simon was a bit embarrassed. But he was genuinely thrilled she has come back.”
The new series is set to return next month and it remains to be seen if Janet impressed Simon, Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger.
The X Factor is also welcoming some new blood with Rylan Clark Neal and DJ Matt Edmondson taking over the Xtra Factor.
Dermot is also returning after Olly Murs and Caroline Flack hosted the show last year.
